Spring Term 2023
What's the Story?
Throughout the Spring term, we will be concentrating on our topic 'What's the Story?' which is based on lots of different traditional tales.

During the second spring term, our key texts are The Gingerbread Man and an African re-telling of The Princess and the Pea. The children enjoyed thinking about why it was dangerous for the Gingerbread Man to swim across the river. They explored what happens to them when they get wet, and designed and made boats that floated to keep him safe. We also really enjoyed baking, decorating and eating our very own Gingerbread Men!

We have had so much fun basing our work on the stories of The Three Little Pigs and Goldiluck and the Three Pandas. We've built houses for the pigs, and tested these pretending to be the Big Bad Wolf. We learnt the story and especially enjoyed all the huffing and puffing.
We celebrated Chinese New Year, and learnt all about the traditional ways to celebrate this festival. We created our own collage dragons, using the skills we learnt in our art sessions to help us. We listened to traditional Chinese music and even tried to use chopsticks! We thought about how his story was similar to Goldilocks and the Three Bears, so we made our own porridge adding healthy fruit to make it even more yummy!
Our home learning project this term was to think about what we want to be when we grow up. This linked with our Jigsaw theme of Dreams and Goals, and the children created posters to present to the rest of the class. They were all amazing!

Our topic this term has been based on the stories of Julia Donaldson. We have focussed on The Gruffalo, and Stickman as our key texts, but we have also enjoyed reading and listening to others such as: The Highway Rat, Room on the Broom, The Scarecrows Wedding and her new release, The Baddies.
When we read The Smartest Giant in Town, the children made kindness crowns, and practised saying kind words and doing kind things for our friends. Kindness has been the value we have focussed on this term.
In maths, we have continued to think about the numbers 1-5 - using our eyes to subitise and thinking about the different ways we can make these numbers. We have also looked at some 2D shapes, including triangles, circles, squares and rectangles, as well as day and night, and sequencing events.

During this Autumn term, the children have settled into school life at Northway Infants. Our topic has been Marvellous Me where we have painted self portraits, discussed our emotions and feelings and spoken about our families. We have enjoyed discovering all the fun activities we can do at school from early morning workouts to exploring the outside classroom. We have followed the school and classroom rules to keep SAFE. Look at the photos to see how HAPPY we are at school! We have become more INDEPENDENT by sorting ourselves out in a morning, putting our own welly boots on and changing for PE. We have practised and practised writing our names...NEVER GIVING UP and our teachers are very proud of how we have EXCELLED at this. We definitely SHINE like the stars on our jumpers!
In maths we explored many different things. We have learnt and used language such as more and fewer where we looked at piles of objects and had to decide which had more. We sorted objected into groups, looked at taller and shorter, and spoke about the capacity of a container. More recently we looked at patterns all around us and created repeating patterns using objects or colours.
Our focus so far has been on Set 1 sounds, learning the sounds the letter makes, associating it to an object, learning to correctly form the letter and begin to build words. We've also started to blend using the sounds we know! We have been enjoying doing lots of activities related to each sound.
