Chair's Report

End of year 2023

I can’t quite believe that another year has flown by so quickly. I feel so lucky to have been part of such a wonderful team for 4 years now and feel even luckier that our children get to have such an amazing start to their school journey. The PTFA play such an integral part to school life and we get to provide the ‘sparkle’ that normal school budgets can’t stretch to.

We’ve had an action packed year of events;  school discos, the Christmas Fayre, Family Night, non uniform days, sponsored walk, ice cream sale, and finishing up with an amazing VIP leavers party where we celebrated our oldest children as they moved on to their next stage.

We supported Christmas entertainment, school trips, Coronation gifts, leavers hoodies and have saved a substantial amount of money towards getting started with our Forest school this year. None of these things could happen without our wonderful PTFA and also the ongoing support of the whole staff team who really do support everything we do.

As members of the PTFA, we had the huge privilege of being invited to join the children in celebrating the King's Coronation in May this year, at the joint concert held with Carrant Brook and Preschool.. it was very emotional to hear the children all singing together and seeing all their hard work come together.. memories like this last a lifetime.

I know this year we will continue to bring the sparkle and I hope that this time next year we will be able to write about an exciting new Forest School… watch this space!

End of year 2022

Wow.. what another amazing year! We were so lucky to have welcomed some new members to the Friends of Northway team in September – Abi, Jenny and Michael - their hard work and dedication from the off has been instrumental in making this years’ events so successful.

It was wonderful to have been able to host a school disco again in the autumn term – our first one since before COVID! The look of our joy on the children’s faces made the wait worthwhile and we loved seeing all the wonderful dance moves... not only from the children! The disco was swiftly followed by a crazy hair day, the children designing their own Christmas cards and our annual Christmas raffle.  These events raised an amazing £1197!

The spring term saw the launch of our Easter ‘Eggstravaganza’ competition in which the children could decorate an egg in the most imaginative way possible. Some highlights included Minions, Pokémon and some ’NHeggS’ - we were very impressed with all the entries! We held an Easter chocolate raffle and raised £318 in total.

In the Summer term we completed our second (and likely to become annual!) NIS Sponsored Walk. With all COVID restrictions lifted, we were delighted to be able to share this with parents, carers, siblings and other family members this year. The smiles and enjoyment from everyone made the whole event so enjoyable for everyone and the children loved sharing this with their families! This event raised a staggering £2000 which we were blown away by!

We loved meeting our new parents at the new intake meetings in May and were able to host our first second hand uniform sale as part of this. We are hoping to host several more of these over the next academic year so watch this space!

Another highlight was the PTFA team being invited to join the Street Party for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was a real privilege to see all 3 settings come together to celebrate this historic occasion and enjoy an afternoon of well-deserved fun for everyone!

We were sad to say good bye to our Year 2’s this year and they were thrilled with their leaver's hoodies (despite it being the hottest end of term possible!). They thoroughly enjoyed their VIP experience before the leavers disco and they partied hard! They were treated to canapés and drinks before making an extra special entrance to the disco. We wish them every success at Carrant Brook Juniors and we know they will continue to SHINE!

Along with the Year 2’s we very sadly say goodbye to Leanne & Debbie who have been pivotal in making the PTFA what it is today and on behalf of everyone we would like to say a huge ’THANK YOU’ to them for everything they have done. Without their passion and determination, the events over the past 3 years would not have come together as they have. They will be joining us at our AGM in September where we can thank them formally.

We are so thankful to have such a wonderful PTFA team, who are so well supported not only by the staff team but by all the NIS families. Thank you so much to everyone for their ongoing support of our events – we wouldn’t be as successful without you. The money that we raised this year has been able to provide all the extras for our children that make school memories to cherish - the discos, the street parties, the keepsake teddy bears, new playground equipment, the ice creams, the doughnuts, the leavers hoodies, the ’beach day’ ... and much more! If you are interested in joining the team, we always welcome new members. Any time you are able to give really does help.

Please get in touch if you would like to join us! ptfa@northway.gloucs.sch.uk
