P.H.S.E.

At Northway Infant School we deliver personal, social and health education, emotional literacy and well being, and an understanding of British values through a fun, creative and engaging curriculum that also encompasses the Gloucestershire ‘Pink’ curriculum.  We aim to equip the children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and strategies to live healthy, safe, creative, productive, responsible and balanced lives.

In addition to the continual development of the children’s social and emotional literacy skills and their understanding of the wider world in class, every Friday the children have a 40-minute dedicated P.H.S.E. session. These sessions provide diverse and enriched learning opportunities and are delivered in family groups made up of the children’s siblings and children from different year groups.  These are very sociable sessions with the children quickly gaining confidence in sharing their ideas and working together, developing self-esteem, resilience and recognising and celebrating their own and other children’s achievements through fun tasks and challenges.

Each week the children take part in a different activity that focuses on the terms ‘value’ and PSHE theme. These activities are typically very practical and may involve acting, creating, listening to and reflecting on stories, investigating, making group decisions and always involve plenty of discussion and even debates! Friday afternoons are always fun and the children always engage in the tasks and challenges with great enthusiasm.

The values we will be covering this year are friendship, thankfulness, hope, truthfulness, compassion and humility.  Through these we will learn and develop an understanding of many things including; citizenship, keeping healthy and safe, valuing ourselves and others, developing empathy, celebrating differences and the need for resilience and setting targets to help overcome challenges.

Our value for Autumn 2017 is Friendship – watch this space for updates on what we get up to and each Friday your children should have something new to share and chat about.
